The Timberland mission is to equip men, women, and kids to make a difference in their world. The Timberland Boot Company™ was launched in 2005 in the UK and has since expanded into new markets including Italy, Japan and the U.S. - focused on selective independent menswear and shoe specialists around the globe. The flagship store occupies an entire house on Fournier Street, East London. It’s a converted banana warehouse in an area rich with creative minds and ethnic diversity. The store design is inspired by the heritage of the building; the regenerated and recycled materials create a sense of a living space, where the past and present exist as one. Part of our Fournier Street store is thrown open as a platform for local talent, including filmmaking, music, design and art. This is just one of the ways we connect with local people and businesses. In the post-industrial age, commerce has a responsibility to strengthen the community in which it thrives. This is the Timberland Boot Company mandate.

In 1951, Nathan Swartz, a New England leather craftsman, set up shop in The Abington Shoe Company and was later joined in the business by his sons Sidney and Herman in 1955. In those days, the company resembled more a community boot maker and cobbler than the sophisticated manufacturing operation it has become.
